1. FIND OUT FRIDAYS!

By Katie Datko

The FCLT and the Library Initiative for Equitable and Affordable Learning (LIEAL) will have a series of online synchronous workshops this semester beginning October 7 on a variety of topics including Open Educational Resources (OER), Canvas, Modules, and Course Design. Keep an eye out for more information or head on over to the POD Calendar to sign up! Our first workshop will be at 10 AM on Friday October 7 with Hugo Aguilera, What’s New in Canvas

2. DEI WORKGROUP OPPORTUNITY

by Eva Figueroa

Last spring, I attended the Peralta Equity Conference where I learned of a DEISA workgroup led by folks at Cal State LA and State University of New York (SUNY). Here’s an overview video of the project. They invited participants to join and continue to welcome new participants. I joined and have enjoyed contributing to this important work. If you are interested in joining too, you can sign up here.

3. STUDENT CHROMEBOOK USERS

by Katie Datko

A recent Canvas update might affect anyone using an older Chromebook. (Some Chromebooks will not allow users to update to the newest Operating System.) To date, Canvas has not announced an official workaround. One possible solution to this until further notice may be to have students download the Canvas App from the Google Play Store if their Chromebook support Android Apps.

4. APPOINTMENTS FOR INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN HELP

by Katie Datko

Just a reminder that the FCLT staff is available to help you with all your instructional technology needs! This includes help with online course design & pedagogy. To make an appointment, please go to the FCLT Bookings Page.

If you need some after-hours help creating content or teaching with Canvas beyond technical support, schedule a session with an Instructure Canvas Panda Pro. This service is available directly through Canvas until Sunday, September 18.

5. TECH FOR STUDENT SUPPORT

by Katie Datko & Michelle Newhart

For students, getting back into the swing of the semester can be a little stressful. For ideas on how to support your students using Canvas, check out Dr. Michelle Newhart’s blog post, Using Technology to Alleviate Student Stress.
