Icebreakers, Warmups, & Games on Zoom

If you’re looking for fun activities for your online synchronous course, you’ve come to the right place! Today’s post will truly be a “byte” because the majority of the information was added to our our Canvas Faculty Center. I’m excited to share a new page for Icebreakers, Warmups, & Games in Zoom.

Gamification of online courses is a growing trend in education aimed at engaging students in said courses. Merriam-Webster defines gamification as “the process of adding games or gamelike elements to something (such as a task) so as to encourage participation.” Before our move to remote teaching due to COVID-19, Mt. SAC only offered asynchronous online courses. Any gamification focused on activities that could be done by students based on a flexible format. As second 8-week courses begin, we thought we’d offer some fun activities to incorporate into synchronous meetings in Zoom.

So go check out our new page for ideas! Comment below to let us know what you think, if you have any of your own ideas to add, or if you have a suggestion for a future blog post.
